- Client: Segal Design Institute, Human-Centered Product Design
- Role in Project: User observation, analysis, testing and synthesis, lead design concept generator, lead on 3D printing prototypes
- Skills: Prototyping, Rapid prototyping, user-centered design, research and human factors analysis, brainstorm and concept generation
- Key Features: The design enables key use, is inexpensive, low effort and comfortable while maintaining stable and secure on the user's body
Design Challenge: Running with a house key adds needless frustration when runners do not have pockets on their athletic clothing. Many workarounds for this problem exist, but impede the use of the key and are uncomfortable.
Design Solution: The Snap Key is a compact device that fits over the top portion of keys snuggly that can be clipped on and off key chains with ease, while then being able to be clipped easily on a user’s body for the duration of their runs.
Design Feature: Clip
Design Feature: Key Cap
Concept Generation
Surveying 329 people revealed that the second most likely item users carried on their run was a single key. A whitespace exists to create a product that can successfully hold a single house key while running that is low effort, low cost, comfortable and remains secure.
